Rooted in faith, family and community

braiding sweetgrass

This season, the words we are holding come from Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer.

I am beginning this book slowly, with intention, the same way we try to approach life and work at Kindred Bees Farm. I have not read it yet in full, but its themes have been calling to me for some time. Care for the land. Gratitude. Reciprocity. The understanding that what we tend shapes who we become.

As we continue to build Kindred Bees Farm, these ideas feel especially fitting. We are learning that tending land, community, and daily life all ask the same thing of us. Attention. Patience. Respect. And a willingness to listen before acting.

Braiding Sweetgrass invites readers into a way of seeing the world that honors both knowledge and wonder. It reminds us that the earth is not simply a resource, but a gift, and that our role is not just to take, but to give back in meaningful ways.

This season, I am reading this book as an invitation rather than a conclusion. An invitation to slow down. To notice. To consider how we might live with greater care for the land beneath our feet and the people around us.

If you choose to read along, you are warmly invited into the conversation. This space is meant to be shared, shaped by reflections from many places and perspectives. Whether a single sentence lingers with you, or a broader idea takes root, there is room here for your thoughts as well.

More reflections to come….
